Accidental dog attack?
He wasn't bred to do this %26amp; you don't know why he does? He is a dog, and he can't be held responsible for things you haven't taught him. So he misbehaves because you haven't taught him otherwise. Its a shame that he might have to pay the price for your negligence.
Reply:Hopefully the lady will not press charges, but if she does, technically it is your fault. It is your repsonsibility to make sure your dog is secure at all times.

I don't believe in chaining dogs up. Either you should make sure the dog is supervised outside at all times, or get a fence installed.
Reply:You should speak with the person. You should agree to never leave your dog outside unattended. That is the minimum of what a responsible owner does. You should pay all expenses to this woman and maybe even offer extra compensation for goodwill. You are at fault here and if you love your dog. You have to live up to your promises. The dog must never be outside without supervision. It belongs in the house with you guys more often than not.
Reply:If your dog is prone to attacking other animals, I don't mean to be cruel, but it is best to humanely put the dog to sleep. It sounds like you either got the dog later in life, or you did not appropriately train it and socialize it with other animals as a puppy.

Lastly, please do NOT leave your dog chained up unattended outside. If you are not willing to keep your dog indoors with you, then you really should not have a pet.
Reply:If he attacked another dog---not a human---then don't worry about the death sentence....at least if when you say "MA" that means you live in Masssachusetts in the US.

You cannot keep this dog chained in your yard---it INCREASES his aggression toward other dogs and creatures. It will also make him more territorial in general.

You will need to go to obedience training with him and see if someone can help you with with dog aggression. You will not be able to let him loose unless he is in a solidly fenced yard with a huge fence.

You should also know that if he attacks a dog and a person gets bit while trying to save his dog you will be in deep trouble. It could be an accidental bite or what dog people call "displaced aggression" which could mean your dog really hurting someone. If this happens and you knew your dog was aggressive with other dogs then you could be seeing jail time yourself.

Not trying to freak you out---but you should know that it happens.

Your dog may be an angel with people, but you MUST find someone who can help deal with the dog aggression before he seriously hurts another dog, a human, or gets hurt himself.

Good luck.
Reply:The reason he did this is because he was chained up. Dogs who are chained or tied are somewhere along the lines of 15 times more territorial than dogs who are not.

I am not sure if there is anything that you can do to save him if the woman reported this to the police. The only thing you can do is talk to her and offer to pay the vet bills for the dog. Explain to her that you are sorry and that it won't happen again. Then NEVER, EVER chain your dog out again.
Reply:no such thing as accidental dog attack, and if no one called the authourities b4 ,you were very lucky.it is your responsibilty,to have your dog restrained on the correct collar and chain, and have a proper fence to withhold him in.now if the guy who got bit went to the doctors it will proberly get reported as the doctor has to do this and the council or police will come visit you.you may have to do some changes with your yard to keep this dog so you ought to be doing it now.if it attacked the other dog same thing, the vet will have to make report and you will also have to pay for any costs incurred.maybe a fine,or maybe you can work it out with the people..by the way you should of gone to see if the laddie is ok and if the dog is ok,not worry about yourself,if that was your kid etc would you be sitting there.i sued when my kids and lil dog were attaked, they got thousands and it went to a trust fund.goodluck this time.LISTEN,wot happens if he kills nxt time, tell yr kid wot your dog done is really bad and illegal, not all dogs get put down but you may go to court and they will order you to make changes in the yard and they will return to check on the dog,if you do not comply,he will be removed, depends now if there has been a complaint made,it may take a few days b4 someone contacts you.but you mayb getting watched now.hope they dont retailate by trying to hurt your dog back, just keep it in+treat him better.
Reply:I think the dog is safe. Hopefully the owner won't complain. If you must put the dog out without any type of supervision, maybe get a chain link kennel ( I'm not implying he should be out side in it all day either). Accidents do happen.
Reply:"Accidental dog attack?"

Please re-read your description with an open mind. It doesn't sound like an "accident" to me. Perhaps you should consider that in your final decision.
Reply:This is why you never leave your animal outside alone on a chain. I don't care how much the chain weighs, this is still tension on the animals neck, which can cause problems with the joints ans muscles. Besides that though, as long as you pay for the inpound fee (if they take your dog in for six months of quarintee) then you can get your dog back without them euthanizing the animal. Sometimes depending on the serverity of the attack they do tell you that that is your only option. And don't let your duaghter run off with the dog, you are the parent!! Take charge and don't let the child control you with threats. Good luck.
Reply:The dog should be okay from being but to sleep but no gurantees. I would suggest not to leave the dog unattended while outside and see how he does if not chained maybe you walk him around on a leash or just stay with him. Also how tall is the fence? And how did he see the other dog? I would add a taller fence with maybe mesh at the top to keep him from getting over it and keep it well covered with no open slats to see outside of the yard. Did you tell the woman you are willing to pay for the damages or treatment if needed?
