HELP with SEROUSE SUNBURN?
Infection is a BIG problem with burns of this type. Wash with cool water and gentle soap. Apply an anti bacterial spray or cream (bacitracin or neosporin) and use ice packs (it's safe now since it''s been 3 days and you've already blistered. Also if you go to the Doc ask for "Silvodine" it's a cream my sister got 2nd degree burns and this helped her WAY more than the Morphine. Good luck, don't forget the SUNSCREEN next time.
Wear a hat, take an umbrella, wear a shirt, get in the shade and wear sunglasses if you're by water you can get sunburned eyes...really ask a snow boarder!!
If you have to wear a shirt you should probably try to bandage your wounds as much as u can, especially to prevent infection. And it does sound like you should go to the doctor, especially if the blisters are thick.
Good Luck!
Reply:you should definately see a doc just to be certain that you dont have an infection in the blisters. burns can become infected easily. it does take several days for a burn to stop hurting, so dont be alarmed by the prolonged pain. eitherway keep them clean until you decide if your going to see a doc.
Reply:Matt, yes see a doctor as soon as you can. Call and tell them how bad the burn is and if you can't get in tomorrow, WALK IN. When the doc sees it he will be glad you did. No cream with fragrance not even Aloe Vera unless its pure with no additives.My son had the same thing his skin peeled off when I had to change the bandage 3 times a day and put a medicated burn cream on. He had to stay out of the sun for the rest of the year. I had to buy a special shirt so the sun could not get to his skin when he had to go outside for anything. $100.00 for that.and a year later we are getting biopsy on moles which came up after his burn healed. You can get an infection and may have to have skin graphs because you killed the skin. Best now is to keep it lightly covered with bandage and a clean whit shirt would be best if you can't get it all covered. By the way he was at his dads house when this happened and called me a week later when his skin came off on his shirt and was oozing all over. It doesn't get better just worse.
Reply:Hi,
Looks like you have a severe sunburn. You can try the following treatment-
* apply cold compresses with ice
* apply an OTC 1% hydrcortisone cream
* apply calamine lotion
* take an anti-histaminic like benadryl
* take anti-inflammatory like tylenol
If there is no improvement with the above treatment or there is worsening then you need to go to ER.
