The real deal on Virgin Coconut Oil.?

So I've been reading all these great things that coconut oil can do. A few things are that it helps thyroid disease, weight loss, immune system, viruses, skin diseases, fatigue, candida, diabetes, and cholesterol. I read that having two tablespoon a day helps your health tremendously. So I decided to give it a try and I took one tablespoon of the stuff and instantly felt my heart hurting! It felt clogged and hurt for a minute....I was kind of scared to tell you the truth. Am I the only one who has encounter this heart pain? I didn't want to go through with the second table spoon since my first when didn't go so well. I have not read anyone who encountered the same instant heart ache. Anyone out there can explain or had the same experience?

The real deal on Virgin Coconut Oil.?
I will venture to say that you are having trouble digesting the fat. Probably would experience the same thing if you swallowed a tablespoon of butter or olive oil. That is, instant indigestion.

In your case I would say you probably won't be able to get 2 tablespoons a day into your diet. Might digest it a little better if you take lipase, a fat-digesting enzyme, first.

I know several people who are eating coconut oil and none have reported any dramatic weight loss or drastic health improvement. I read the book that made this original claim and I think he was saying that people who quit eating hydrogenated fat in their diet and used coconut oil in its place, lost weight and improved their health. This is logical.

Coconut oil is a healthy fat, I believe, because it is natural. Just use it for frying and as a substitute for unhealthy fat in biscuits, pie crust, bread, et.al. You can also use it for salad dressing if you are going to eat all you make. If you refrigerate it, it solidifies, of course, but you can leave it at room temp for a few minutes and shake before using.
Reply:Actually, it sounds like you had an allergic reaction to it if it was immediate. Even if it was within a few minutes, that's allergies.

It would literally take at LEAST 30-60 minutes for anything you ingest to get through your stomach, blood stream, and get blocked in your heart to cause chest pain.

Coconut Oil is healthy because of the Medium Chain Triglycerides that your body metabolizes very quickly for energy. It's slightly possible that if it were 20-30 minutes after you took the whole oil that it could have been an energy boost that sped up your heart where it wasn't ready for the extra energy, but that would typically be an indication of some major heart trouble in the first place if that happened. Plus, when you said "instantly", I wouldn't take that as long enough for your body to metabolize it.

I'd suggest just giving it to someone else and staying away from Coconut Oil if you had an allergic reaction to it.

(edit): To the other person who answered.... you CAN eat it straight, or you can cook with it. Most bottles have a specific listing of eating it straight (which is anywhere between 1 and 4 tbsp per day), plus there are softgels of Coconut Oil from several major companies.
Reply:You're supposed to cook with it. Not eat it by itself.
Reply:Coconut Oil IS good for you, it's just that certain company's want you to believe otherwise, so that making a profit will be easier for them. (basically, they want you to buy their products instead)

But I won't go into that. It'll be toooooo long to explain.

The reason you experienced discomfort was because your body was not used to taking so much by itself.

You're supposed to break up the dose during the day, not take it all at one time.

----------Two teaspoons for breakfast

Two teaspoons for lunch

Two teaspoons for dinner

BTW, ----3 teaspoons equal 1 tablespoon.
Reply:I personally tried it myself as I have thyroid n hope to lose weight.

Instead, get fatter. So I give up. Lets not waste time on it - explore other good oil.

I have thrown all the rest of the organic virgin coconut oil. - jus not my type.
