My baby 9 months old is suffering from a skin disease that started just like heat rush which now after several months it has turned into tiny wet wounds. Is so serious on his left chick an arround the neck. First the doctor gave us floxopen antibiotic but did'nt work. second was hydrocotison, all in vain. The third doctor named it eczema. How can we go about it? Thanks alot in advance.
What is child hood eczema?
Hi. My son has eczema, treating it is a big learning curve. What your child wears and lies on can have a big impact - absolutely no manmade fibres next to his skin - dont lie him on the carpet or setee etc unless he's on a cotton sheet (which is really hard when they start to crawl), dress him in cotton, use nonbio washing powders, dont put bubble bath in his bath, dont use perfumes yourself, vacuum regularly. If he scratches, put scratch mitts or socks on his hands. Try to keep the environment around him as chemical and perfume free as possilbe. Keep his skin moisturised with a simple moisturiser - aqueous cream, or oilatum cream. Theres also diet to consider - my son started showing signs of it when i started weaning him - maybe try soya or goats milk for a while, but dont do it without talking to your doctor. Its a long list and youll start to notice what irritates his skin, but you do get used to it. And the good news is most kids grow out of it.
Reply:Eczema is any rash disease found in a child. I had it, it would appear when I ate chocolate.
From Wikipedia:
"Eczema is a form of dermatitis, or inflammation of the upper layers of the skin.
The term "eczema" is broadly applied to a range of persistent or recurring skin rashes characterized by redness, skin edema, itching and dryness, with possible crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. Areas of temporary skin discoloration sometimes characterize healed lesions, though scarring is rare."

Reply:is it chicken pox? i'm not a doctor.
Reply:my son and daughter both have eczema i use diprobase everyday and when on a bad day use hydrocotizene and usualy in summer and winter when it can be quite bad something with a steroid in it cant remember its name
also dont use bubble baths or scented soaps or wet wipes that normally irritates it. use something called oilatum in the bath but be carefull it is very slippy
Reply:I have eczema. It's a rash that appears from stress, allergies, or no reason at all! After giving your child his/her bath then put lotion on him/her. You can buy cortizone or something for now, but take your child to a dermatologist. I was put on Protopic and it has worked miracles.
Also, get an air purifier in your house to suck in allergens around the home. That will help in the future. It's also a good idea to switch out detergents, soaps, shampoos, etc to stuff more hypo-allergenic.
Whatever you do, do not let the child pick the wound because it'll spread and itch worse.
Reply:My daughter had infantile eczema when she was about 2.It started on her leg and it spread to her arms and chest.
It was over 30years ago so I cant remember the name of the treatment.I remember we bathed her using black soap and had ointment from the GP.
She did grow out of it, but her skin is still sensitive ,
she gets dry skin on her face now and again.I did notice that if she was stressed at school it did flare up.
Also it can be linked to asthma and indeed there is some in the family.
All the best, things will improve.
Reply:A lot of people manage to control eczema with diet. You should see what works for your son. My friend controls hers successfully by avoiding wheat products but you should talk to a trained nutritionist before eliminating food groups from his diet as he could end up with malnutrition.
Childhood eczema often disappears with age so hopefully this condition wont follow him into adulthood.
Reply:My son, who is 3 now, had a slight case of eczema when he was born. He had it on his forehead and was miserable, I used to have to lightly scratch it while trying to put him to sleep so that he could actually fall asleep. The doctor's told me that it would "go away" but there was no way that I could wait seeing him so uncomfortable.
What I found that worked SO WELL and it's not even expensive and is available at most stores (I usually buy it in Walmart). The name of the lotion is called:
Aveeno Baby fragrance free soothing relief moisture cream.
This lotion has natural colloidal oatmeal, and they say that oatmeal works great for eczema. It says right on the lotion that it "Soothes %26amp; relieves dry skin even dry skin from eczema."
This really did work for my son and I hope it'll work for your baby.
Reply:eczema mostly attacks children and heredity plays an important role. eczema is a chronic inflammatory disorder in the skin. The main features are blisters that are dry and scaly and with itchy rashes. eczema is not a contagious but it is common. sometimes it can have flare ups due to some allergens and irritants. that is why it is best to avoid skin irritants like wool or rough fibers, perfumed soaps and detergents, fragrant lotions and cosmetics, sand or dust and smoking and cigars. for more tips about preventing eczema flare ups visit http://www.skinoriginal.com
