I am so angry - took my 2 year old to Applebees for lunch. After we finished, he asked for a maple blondie desert which I ordered and they brought it to the table on a skillet. The blondie was just warm, none of the sauce was hot either so I told my son it was ok to eat. Nobody said it was hot. As he leant over to eat, his wrist touched the skillet and he started screaming. The skillet was so hot, it had seared his skin. Rushed him to the bathroom and then to his doctor's office which said he he'd suffered a very nasty second degree burn about 3 inches long. He has to wear dressings, can't get it wet and has to go back on Monday. I've spent nearly $100 this afternoon on prescriptions, dressings and the office visit. Applebees took a complaint and agreed that the skillet was too hot and it should be something they address - my question is Should they reimburse all these expenses that I'm now having to pay for the burn? Can't believe they would serve food on something so hot to a toddler
Applebees - child got burnt?
How terrible and yes, they should reimburse you.
Keep a detailed record...write down what happened to your son - date - time and location. Save all your receipts and tell Applebees that you need information about how to get the bills paid for.
If they're not helpful about taking care of it, you could see about getting a lawyer to handle it.
Hugs to you and your son!
Reply:Call a lawyer right away.
Reply:that is completely ridiculous! i would try to get your medical expenses at the very least. for a toddler, it should have been served on a plate or something.. they had to have known the skillet was hot..and placing it in front of a child...sickening.
Reply:it was very stupid of them to not mention anything about it being hot, especially for a toddler.
i bet you could and SHOULD get some sort of reimbursement or compensation. i would contact a lawyer for advice.
Reply:He should put a lawsuit against them
Reply:I work for Applebee's and I know that dessert is suposed to be served on a hot skillet so it sizzles. I'm sorry to hear that your child was burned. If you write an email to Applebee's corporate office through the website I would be willing to bet they would very easily cover your medical expenses. This is something nobody wants to happen and I could understand your anger, but I wouldn't take up something as large as a lawsuit unless this method fails.
Reply:You do not need to call a lawyer. Applebee's is a major restaurant chain; if you did not get a suitable response from the manager at the location you visited, then contact someone higher up:
You can fill out their online form against the manager here:
http://www.applebees.com/GuestContact.as...
But I would recommend actually calling corporate headquarters:
Applebee's International, Inc.
4551 W. 107th Street
Overland Park, KS 66207
Phone: 888-59APPLE
If you're looking to get a million-dollar lawsuit going (i.e., the McDonald's coffee lady...) then you should get a lawyer. Personally, I think that route is ridiculous, but that's just my opinion.
But if you're just looking to get your expenses reimbursed, be the squeaky wheel and speak to the manager again and go over his/her head if you need to.
These major restaurants are insured for things like this, and it's better for everyone involved if they reimburse the 100 bucks and keep you as a customer (and, hopefully, keep you from telling all of your friends what jerks they are).
My ex-bf had a situation with Pizza Hut where he broke his tooth on an olive pit that was in his pizza. He wasn't out for blood -- he just wanted his dental expenses paid. Sure enough, after speaking with the store manager, Pizza Hut's insurance company called and completely covered the dental bill.
Reply:If a representative of applebees did in fact state to you ( a witness would be the clencher) that the skillet was too hot, then you have your answer! The admission alone proves negligence on the part of the restaraunt. Be calm, polite, and have your receipts on hand when you return to speak with the manager about reimbursement. Use copies of your expenses. Should you have to go to court, you will need the originals! If the manager will not offer to cover the expenses, contact the head office. Believe me, in todays society, they will much rather pay for their neglect quietly, rather than being taken to court.
Reply:I am so sorry your son got burnt! How is he doing now?
Dang that is terrible! I would contact the Corp. Office and talk to them. If they don't want to do anything then if you have the time and money, I would get a lawyer and go from there. You have a legit. complaint. You are not in the wrong here. They need to stand up and take responsibility for letting that skillet get out like that!!
I don't think talking to the Manager where you were would do much good, he would have to talk to corp. anyways or even his dist. manager. You could start there and work your way up. You son has damages, mental and physical. They should have to step up.
So, sorry to hear about that!
Reply:exactly... there is NO intelligent person on this earth that would place a burning hot skillet in front of a child! what a world we live in!
They may argue and say "well its a skillet, of course its hot" but do they not realize that a two year old probably does not know that a skillet set on the table in front of him is going to be hot.
even if the child does recognize that it looks like one of those things mommy cooks with on the hot stove, he is probably too worried about the treat in front of him to care.
I would be FURIOUS! shut that idiot infested place down before they kill someone!
Reply:yes, they should reimburse you. I would get a lawyer, or set up a consultation with a lawyer. I used to work in the restaurant business, and that should never have happened to you and your child. I hope he is healing well, and good luck!
Reply:cry about it
